The Bulls travel to Kingsmeadow on Saturday to face AFC Wimbledon for the first time.
It will be new opposition but an old stadium for the Bulls to visit. Previously the Bulls played there against Kingstonian, who still share the ground. The Bulls faced the old Wimbledon side in three League seasons and, more recently, the League Cup in 1993. The then top flight side won both legs to progress 5-1 on aggregate.
The Wombles 'regained' their League status in just nine years after being formed by the fans that were left behind by the theft of their club. Set up as a Supporters Trust run club, the fans own the vast majority of the side and retain aspirations to return to the Merton home of the original club. On the pitch, Terry Brown's men have scored twice in all three of their League matches so far, beating Plymouth and Dagenham without conceding but losing 3-2 to Bristol Rovers on the opening day.
The Bulls travel to Kingston upon Thames still looking to open their goalscoring and points accounts for the season. Ongoing injury concerns suggest the side will change from the one that started against both Morecambe and Macclesfield with new arrival Simon Clist expected to play some part in proceedings. Whether that is as a replacement for the bruised Joe Heath or to allow Rob Purdie to fill another role is yet to be seen. The hoped for keeper signing is yet to materialise and, with Adam Bartlett expected to miss out again, veteran Russell Hoult could end up pitching up his zimmer frame next to the goal again.
