Willo's final match tomorrow

Andy Williams will retire from football tomorrow - bringing to an end a 22-year career that will start and end at Hereford.

Born and bred in the city, the striker made his debut for the club when he came off the bench as a 17-year-old in a Herefordshire Senior Cup Final match against Forest Green on March 16, 2004.

The following season, he featured regularly on the bench and made three substitute appearances in the league.

However, his breakthrough season came in 2005/2006. Williams ended up being the club's top scorer with 13 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.

Most notably, he scored two vital goals in the Conference Play-off Semi-final against Morecambe, and the final itself against Halifax which led to Hereford regaining their place in the Football League after a nine year absence.

However, in his first season in League Two, Williams was played out of position on the right wing. Nevertheless, he still scored eight goals in 48 appearances.

His performances attracted the attention of Bristol Rovers. Hereford accepted a bid of £150,000 in January 2007, but Williams turned them down, preferring to stay with the Bulls. However, he eventually joined the Gas the following July.

Williams would return to Hereford on loan in September 2008 and scored in a win over Carlisle. Just a day after his loan expired, Williams went back to the Bulls for the remainder of the season.

He was placed on the transfer list at the end of the 2008/09 season before being removed. Williams would score Rovers' goal of the season in a 3-2 win at Southampton on September 29, 2009.

Williams left The Memorial Ground in July 2010, joining Yeovil. In his first season there, he scored eight goals in 39 matches, mostly from the wing. The following campaign, he was Yeovil's top scorer with 17 goals in all competitions.

Having rejected a new offer, Williams left Yeovil to join Swindon in June 2012.

However, he would rejoin the Glovers in August 2013 on a season long loan. A serious cruciate injury though hampered his season.

A move to Doncaster followed in June 2015, with Williams signing a three-year deal. Shortly after the start of the 2015/16 season, he scored his first career hat-trick in a 4-1 in over his former club, Yeovil.

Williams was released by Doncaster in July 2018 and he joined Northampton. There he would score 20 goals in 71 appearances before a move to Cheltenham followed in July 2020. Following the Robins' title-winning campaign, Williams triggered a clause to sign a new one-year deal with the club.

However, after not being offered a new deal, he was released at the end of the 2021/22 season. Williams soon signed for Walsall on a one-year deal. However, now aged 36, he only scored three goals in 46 appearances.

Williams then dropped out of the Football League, going back to his boyhood club Hereford on June 6, 2023. A knee injury in pre-season resulted in him mossing the first five months of the 2023/24 season.

He finally made his first appearance on December 23, 2023, coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 home win over Spennymoor.

Three days later, Williams scored his first goals for the club, including a 99th minute winner over Gloucester.

After scoring 11 goals in just 23 games, Williams signed a contract extension until the end of the 2024/25 season.

During that campaign, he appeared in all but two matches, netting 10 goals in 48 appearances as the Bulls narrowly missed out on the play-offs.

In July 2025, Williams signed another one-year-contract with the club.

Despite the club struggling at the wrong end of the table, the popular striker has still contributed, whether it's from the starting line up or off the bench.

That was clearly the case on Tuesday night when he chased down a long ball that forced Marine's keeper into a mistake and concede a penalty. Aaron Skinner duly converted to send the Bulls fans wild.

Williams - four months short of his 40th birthday - will now play for his final game for the club on Saturday against Peterborough Sports, where a win will keep Hereford in National League North.
