Car Parking Problems Ahead For Football Fans

With Herefordshire Council looking to go ahead with their £27M new 'link' road through the city, football fans may have to look for a new place to park as the Merton Meadow car park, right next to the Edgar Street ground, is part of an area expected to have up to 800 houses built on it.

It's not yet certain when the new road will be built as the Council are yet to acquire some of the land needed.

Currently there are 763 spaces at Merton Meadow and all together just under 3,000 spaces in Hereford.

According to BBC Hereford and Worcester, when all the work is finished there will be more car parking spaces than at present with new parks on the former Rockfield DIY site near the railway station and in Bath Street. Neither are anywhere near the football ground.

There will be 615 spaces in the new development on the former livestock market close to Edgar Street but it is not known whether some will be 'tied'.  For example it's likely that Waitrose will want some of those spaces for its own customers.

However, in the meantime there will be fewer spaces as the Garrick multi-storey is to close for six months for an upgrade.

"It’s change and I know you bloody well don’t like it but it’s going to happen," said Councillor Graham Powell.
