Hereford United manager Jamie Pitman has said that having the players, who defeated Newcastle forty years ago, back at Edgar Street this week is a 'fantastic occasion'. Most of them will be watching the Bulls play Cheltenham this coming Saturday.
"It's great because the football club has allowed those players to come in on a regular basis," said Pitman.
"Ronnie (Radford) has been a regular at the club since David Keyte and the new board took over. Also Colin Addison and a few more.
"They've been to some of our games. I know they are there but the players probably don't.
"It's been the biggest thing that happened to the football club in forty years.
"Something like that puts not just the football club but the city on the map.
"You go into the board room and there's pictures of that occasion. There's Radfords Bar, there's the Addison Suite.
"Not just that but when you meet them they are such fantastic people. They are a pleasure to have around as well."
Pitman noted that the club was currently going through a new era with both the change of major shareholders and management.
"It is a 'new' football club really. With Graham (Turner) going it's like it is a new club. It's only really in its eighteen month starting out period.
"It's a difficult time for everyone and we just need to get through these tough times hopefully to get some of those better times like forty years ago."
Pitman went go to say how he appreciates the job he's in at Hereford.
"It a job where you have to accept there are so many other people that would take your job straight away.
"And I'm in the position that I've got to do everything I can to keep that position.
"Obviously I've got to get results but I've had a lot of backing and support from the board.
"It's a period we need to get through."
Reminded that it will be hard to get back if Hereford did drop out of the League, Pitman said the Conference is a tough League.
"There are some good sides in there - I've seen a lot of it this year.
"To drop out of it would be devasting. We're going to do everything we can to ensure that doesn't happen."
Pitman quotes come from an interview with Mark Clemmit for the latest Football League Podcast.
