News Round-Up

Port Vale are reported to be set to offer Micky Adams a return to Vale Park on a three year deal after he was sacked by Sheff Utd yesterday after less than six months. Crewe are expected to seal the deal for Valiants defender Gareth Owen this week, with the 28 year old telling the local press that the uncertainty at Vale Park is the reason he is leaving.

Crawley manager Steve Evans says he wants Crewe striker Clayton Donaldson to join his side. Cheltenham say they have held talks with the Jockey Club over building a new stadium at Cheltenham Racecourse. The plan was initially dismissed, but chairman Paul Baker admits the club has done a u-turn and could be playing there in four years with the racecourse using the hospitality areas of the new stadium on racedays.

Bradford's local press say that the only person other than Peter Jackson in contention for the manager's job is Dagenham boss John Still. There won't be a decision made until the financial future of the club is clearer. Plymouth's preferred bidders are claimed to be the mystery Irish consortium that made a late move for the club. Acting chairman Peter Ridsdale is to meet with them today to find out where he stands as he wants to begin organising season ticket and advertising sales for next season.

Luton beat Wrexham 2-1 last night to complete a 5-1 aggregate win in their play-off semi. AFC Wimbledon face Fleetwood tonight. Morecambe are claimed to want veteran Burnley midfielder Graham Alexander as player/manager. The 39 year old is only the second outfield player to play 1,000 games, passing the mark last month.

Conference newcomers Braintree Town have announced they have parted company with manager Rod Stringer just a couple of weeks after winning Conf South. Next season will be Braintree's first ever in the fifth tier. Ex-Bull Tim Sills is one of seven to be released by Aldershot. Also departing are striker Marvin Morgan and winger Wade Small.

Wycombe have released seven following their promotion. Among those released are midfielder Lewis Montrose and striker Jon-Paul Pittman. The former Forest trainee started only seven games due to injury.
