The First Flare |
Yesterday's Southern Prem game between Farnborough and Hereford was close to being abandoned after several flares were thrown onto the pitch.
The referee spoke to Hereford manager Peter Beadle and told him if one more went off the game would be abandoned. This warning prompted Beadle to send captain Jimmy Oates to the Hereford supporters behind the Farnborough goal and ask them to calm down.

Later pictures emerged of one supporter being talked to by three policemen.
A Farnborough player was red carded after reacting to a flare.
"He was red carded for throwing the flare back into the crowd," said Beadle in his post match interview.
"We don't want it at grounds, we don't want it at matches.
"We want the fans to come and do
what they do best - which is support us, sing, be noisy and be loud.
Enjoy when we win, stick behind us when we don't. But we don't want that
[flares etc].
"According to their safety officer any more flares and the game would have been abandoned.
"One flare in the first, two in the second and the referee saying one more and he'll abandon the game. That's not want we want right now.
"Much as we want them to be with us, they (supporters) need to take a bit of responsibilty about what problems they could cause."
Depending on when the FA receive the referee's report of the game, which is certain to mention the flares, Hereford FC will have to respond.
It is understood they know the 'supporter' who was spoken to by the police after flares were thrown.
Update: According to a post on the Farnborough Fans Forum -
"It was quite hard to identify the culprit due to hiding in the crowd, it took 1 of there own supporters to finally photograph the moron before bringing it to the attention of police and stewards before he was led away."
