King's Lynn Smoke Bomb Statement

The chairman of King's Lynn, Stephen Cleeve, has issued the following statement about the smoke bomb thrown at the ground last night during the game against Hereford.

“I deeply condone these ridiculous actions carried out by this person/persons at last night’s game. Throwing this kind of missile is obviously very dangerous and could end up in injury of a serious nature.

“I simply will not tolerate this kind of behaviour which only tarnishes the name of King’s Lynn Town Football Club and 99% of its loyal and sensible supporters.

“I would appeal to the person/ persons who were involved in the incident last night to come forward and own up to their foolish actions or alternatively for any supporters who knows who committed this offence to contact myself or any Club Official with a name/names of the people concerned so they can be dealt with by the club.

“These actions could possibly result in the club receiving at the very least a hefty fine or worse action. What was a memorable night for me has been spoilt by these mindless actions and I will not tolerate it anymore."

Williams Offers Himself For HUST 'Nomination'

HFC and HUST Board member Chris Williams is set to offer himself for nomination by HUST for a further term on the club board.

It's understood that Williams, unlike Martin Watson and Mike Langford who both stepped down recently, would like to carry on as a club director.

His decision means that HUST now have three places to fill on the HFC Board.

Meanwhile any HUST member thinking of putting themselves up for nomination will be forwarded a 'recruitment pack'.

It's believed this pack will contain information about specific roles that new directors would have to agree before being accepted on the HFC board.

Review Of Last Night In The Southern Prem

King`s Lynn Town returned to the top of the Evo-Stik League South Premier table on Tuesday night after edging a five-goal thriller at The Walks against fellow title contenders Hereford FC.
In front of a crowd of 1,181, the Bulls raced into a two-goal lead, thanks to goals from Jordan Liburd after just 8 minutes and then top scorer John Mills right on half-time.
But, as often is the case, 2-0 leads at the break can be tricky, and so it proved as first Michael Gash 4 minutes into the second half and then Ryan Hawkins after 64 minutes pulled the hosts back on level terms before Toby Hilliard netted the winner deep into stoppage time.
The result ended Hereford’s amazing fifty-three away league game unbeaten run come to an end.

And they also lost third place to Weymouth after the Terras earned a good 2-1 win at Garden Walk against a Royston Town side who had previously lost only one in their previous eight games and were edging the top five themselves.
The Crows led at the break, courtesy of a looping header from John Frendo.
But 8 minutes into the second half, Brandon Goodship equalised and then won it for the visitors from the penalty spot in the 69th minute.
Chesham United moved into the top five after they beat third-bottom St Ives Town and Slough Town, who occupied the final play-off spot at start of play, were held to a 1-1 draw by another of the bottom four, Kings Langley.
At The Meadow, experienced striker Jefferson Louis gave the Generals a 22nd minute lead that Ben Crilley doubled after 33 minutes.
And Louis added a third in 15 minutes when he made it 3-0 on 37 minutes.
Oran Swales made it 4-0 and a comfortable win for the home side in the 73rd minute.
At Arbour Park, a crowd of 450 saw Kings Langley frustrate the Rebels, who took the lead on the half-hour mark through Alan Inns.
But Kings, who have held the top two to draws earlier this season, battled back and earned a share of the spoils through Matt Ball in the 73rd minute.

FA Told About Smoke Bomb At King's Lynn Last Night

It's been reported that the FA has been told about a blue smoke bomb which was thrown onto the pitch during their game against Hereford last night.

It looked as though the smoke bomb was thrown by a King's Lynn supporter but this hasn't been confirmed.

"The main concern of the club is the smoke bomb," said Linnets spokesman Mark Hearle as reported by the Eastern Daily Press.

"We now have to wait to see what action the FA will take against us as a club.”

King’s Lynn Town 3 - Hereford 2

Hereford suffered an away league defeat for the first time since August 2015 last night. King’s Lynn Town ended their impressive 53 game run with a 3-2 win at The Walks.

The Bulls were without Ryan Green who picked up a knock in the 3-0 win against Banbury on the weekend, as Jack Deaman returned to the starting XI to partner Jordan Liburd in the heart of the defence. The only other change saw Mike Symons come in for Pablo Haysham who dropped to the bench.

On a chilly evening in Norfolk, there was some early pressure from the hosts as they threatened with a free kick, but as the ball was worked out to the right wing, Billy Murphy was on hand to clear Michael Gash’s low cross.

As the Bulls found their feet in the game, they soon started to look dangerous. In the seventh minute Keyon Reffell saw his shot from an acute angle tipped over by the keeper, but it was just a minute later when they took the lead.

As a powerful cross-come-shot from Jamie Bird was blocked, Jordan Liburd ran onto the end of the loose ball but saw his initial shot saved before burying the rebound.

The Whites’ next chance fell to John Mills, but after breaking into the box his shot from left of the area hit the upright before going out for a goal kick.

Despite a flurry of corners for King’s Lynn, Hereford were able to deal with them efficiently. After rising to catch the ball, Martin Horsell quickly released Keyon Reffell down the right, but he was tripped just past the halfway line. From the resulting free kick, the hosts sat deep and easily cleared the ball from a congested penalty area.

A decent save from Alex Street in the 27th minute denied Hereford doubling their lead. With John Mills clean through on goal, his low drive was saved by the feet of Alex Street.

At the other end of the pitch, Simon Lappin should have done better as he tried his luck from a free kick, but his shot from 35-yards went high and wide of Martin Horsell’s goal. Lappin then saw another shot go wayward before the break, after firing over from a Michael Clunan corner.

In first half stoppage time, John Mills doubled Hereford’s advantage. Billy Murphy’s long ball forward from a free kick caught the Linnets’ defence off-guard, and Mills was on hand to slide the ball home.

HT: King’s Lynn Town 0 - Hereford 2

The second half got off to a bad start as the Linnetts pulled a goal back four minutes after the restart. After making progress down the wing, right-back Cameron Norman crossed in to Michael Gash at the far-post who had the easy task of turning the ball home.

Lance Smith then came inches away from reestablishing his side’s two goal advantage. After Smith took advantage of a defensive error, his scuffed shot went wide from 12-yards.

In the 62nd minute Keyon Reffell tested the keeper with a powerful shot, but Street made a second save with his feet to deny the former Merthyr-man.

King’s Lynn fought back level with a goal from Ryan Hawkins in the 63rd minute. After Hawkins got the better of Cameron Pring, he then had little difficulty in finding the back of the net firing across Horsell - not a bad way to celebrate your birthday.

King’s Lynn’s Cameron King couldn’t continue after he picked up an ankle injury, being replaced by local lad Toby Hilliard.

The hosts kept up the pressure with Martin Horsell saving a number of efforts, including Tom Siddon’s shot being saved on the line in the 79th minute.

Keyon Reffell, who had looked bright down the right throughout the game, saw another viscous effort saved by the keeper. His right-footed effort from the edge of the area stung the hands of the goalkeeper, going behind for a fruitless corner.

Simon Lappin then smashed an effort against the post, after being set up by former Kidderminster Harriers striker Michael Gash his effort struck the base of the upright.

With the second half dominated by King’s Lynn, they completed the turnaround as Toby Hilliard netted the winner deep into stoppage time. With the ball pinging around the area, Ryan Hawkins managed to get enough on it to have a shot on goal, but Martin Horsell did well to parry it. Substitute Hilliard was quick to react and fired the ball fiercely into the back of the net to send the home side into raptures.

Hereford Throwaway Two Goal Lead at King’s Lynn

Despite having a two goal lead going into half time thanks to first half goals from Jordan Liburd and John Mills, Hereford went on to lose this evening's game at fellow promotion contenders King's Lynn 3-2.

Michael Gash and Ryan Hawkins pulled the hosts back level before Toby Hilliard netted the winner deep into stoppage time.

The results also sees Hereford's 53 away league game unbeaten run come to an end.

Ideally We Would Like To Beat Hereford Twice Said Lynn Keeper

King's Lynn goalkeeper Alex Street has told the Lynn News that 'ideally we would like to beat Hereford twice'. This evening the two clubs go head to head at The Walks and they meet again at Edgar Street on March 10th.

"It's a huge game against Hereford as they are a big club, but we're a big club too," said Street.

"A clean sheet and three points off Hereford would be massive.

"Ideally we'd like to beat Hereford twice as it will put more pressure on them when it comes to their games in hand.

"We've got a job to do and we want promotion whether it's by winning the League or doing it through the play-offs."

Meanwhile Tiverton's game against Frome this evening has been called off.

It’s a huge game against Hereford as they are a big club, but we’re a big club too,” said Street. “A clean sheet and three points off Hereford would be massive, but Saturday’s home game against Dunstable is just as important. “The more we take some points off the top guns in the table the closer it will become but we’ve still got a job to do against sides at the other end of the table.

Follow The Bulls At King's Lynn

There will be full match commentary of this evening's game between King's Lynn and Hereford on both Radio Hereford FC and BBC Hereford and Worcester.

It's believed there will also be commentary on BBC Radio Norfolk.

Tonight In The Southern Premier League

There are five fixtures in the Southern Premier League this evening and there's no doubt which of them is the outstanding fixture.

King's Lynn (2nd) play Hereford (3rd) at The Walks. This is the first time a Hereford club has played at King's Lynn since 1971 and that was in the FA Cup.

The Linnets have an excellent home record this season. In fourteen league games they have been defeated just once. That was back in November when they lost by the only goal in the game to Chesham.  In the remainder they've won ten and drawn three of their home games.

However The Bulls are undefeated on their travels in the Southern Prem this season. Out of thirteen away games they've won nine and drawn four, the last being a 2-2 draw at Slough.

The form book suggests a draw which would probably suit Hereford more than King's Lynn.

The bookies tend to agree as they can't decide who might win the game.

King's Lynn 53/35  Draw 14/5  Hereford 6/4

Of the other promotion contenders Slough (5th) should easily overcome Kings Langley (21st), and Chesham (6th) likewise against St Ives (22nd).

However Tiverton (7th) have a tough looking game against Frome (9th) and Weymouth (4th) might drop points at Royston (8th) who have an excellent home record.

Chesham United v St Ives Town
King's Lynn Town v Hereford
Royston Town v Weymouth
Slough Town v Kings Langley
Tiverton Town v Frome Town

Top of the Southern Prem:

Kettering 30/64
King's Lynn 30/63
Hereford 26/62
Weymouth 31/60
Slough 23/50
Chesham 30/50
Tiverton 30/50
Royston 27/49

From The Archives - King's Lynn In The FA Cup

Tomorrow Hereford travel to King's Lynn for a Southern Premier League fixture.

46 years ago the two clubs met in the first round of the FA Cup.

As a Southern League team back in 1971, Hereford were required to enter the FA Cup at the Fourth Qualifying Round stage. In that round they defeated local rivals Cheltenham Town 3–0 with two goals from Tony Gough and an own-goal.

In the first round the Bulls were drawn away against King's Lynn. The game, played in thick snow, was drawn and a replay at Edgar Street took place on Wednesday November 24th which the Bulls won 1-0. Tony Gough scored the Hereford goal.

Kinnersley Thanks Langford

Hereford FC chairman Ken Kinnersley has thanked Mike Langford for his work as a director of the club.

As revealed on BN last Saturday, Langford has decided to step down from both the HFC board and the HUST board.

"I’d like to thank Mike for the many, many voluntary hours he has put in at Edgar Street as part of his role as a Director at the club," said Kinnersley as reported by the OS.

"He is a real gentleman and a committed supporter of the club, attending many away games as well as working so hard on the 50/50 draw at home fixtures.

"He is a popular figure around the place as he is approachable and very personable. Everyone on the board understands his reasons for stepping down, because we are all aware quite how much time is dedicated to our roles as Directors.

"We are, however, very pleased to hear Mike is going to continue to sell 50/50 tickets on behalf of HUST and look forward to catching up with him on a regular basis in the future."

Players Give Young Vlogger A Motty Coat

Young vlogger Oliver Beach, also known as 'the Beachster', has been given a coat similar to the one worn by John Motson.

The Hereford players had a whip round to buy Oliver the £90 coat, and he was presented with it after Saturday's game.

His mum, Bev Beach, said: "Very proud moment today, got one very happy young man at home.

"Many thanks to all the Hereford FC players that had a whip round and bought Oliver Beach his very own Motty coat, also a massive thanks to the Crawfords for helping to make this happen."

Hereford Match Preview From King's Lynn

King's Lynn Fc have posted a preview of tomorrow's game against Hereford FC.

Town welcome Hereford FC to The Walks on Tuesday evening in, what is, a big match for both sides (7:45 KO).

The visitors are enjoying a remarkable season to date following their promotion to step 3 football last summer.

They have managed to combine good runs in both FA Cup and FA Trophy competition whilst maintaining their league form which to date, has seen them unbeaten on the road in Southern league action this season, With the Linnets also maintaining their push towards the top of the table an entertaining night would appear to be on the cards.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday evening manager Ian Culverhouse is looking forward to an evening of top quality football under the lights “It’s fair to say that Tuesday evening cannot come round soon enough” Culverhouse told www.kltown.co.uk .

“I was very pleased with Saturday’s performance at Hitchin, We deserved that as on occasions of late we haven’t got the results our football has deserved.

“We took our chances well and controlled much of the game which isn’t easy when you go to Hitchin because they like to do thing’s at a high tempo, We go into the Hereford game in good heart but my preparation will be as it always is for whoever we are playing.

“Listen, they are a very good team as their record shows but then so are we. As I always say it will be about us and what we do on the night.

“If we make a mistake somewhere on the pitch there is every chance that we will be punished for it and they will be saying the same. It’s all about creating things out there and taking a chance when it arrives.

“Both teams are blessed with some technically gifted players who can make things happen in an instance and it’s the performance of those kind of players who will ultimately decide who will collect the points on the evening’.

The club wishes to remind supporters that gates will open at The Walks at 5:45pm Tuesday evening.

HUST Look For Nominations To HFC Board

This from HUST:

HUST will shortly be inviting applications for all three of its nominated directors  in line with the HUST Nominated Director policy agreed  by HUST members at the October 2017 AGM.
A recruitment pack is being finalised and will be launched by HUST Chairman, Richard Tomkins, on Monday 12 February 2018.

“I know we have lots of very talented members within HUST and this is obviously a huge opportunity to get directly involved with the running of our club” says Richard.  “It’s absolutely essential we get the best people possible for these roles and we are keen to hear from any HUST members who feel they have the time and skills required to help drive the club forwards as club directors, nominated and supported by HUST -now the club’s largest single shareholder.”

Ahead of the release of the recruitment pack if any interested parties wish to have an informal discussion about the HND role please contact: Richard Tomkins at richard.tomkins@hufctrust.co.uk

HUST would also at this time like to acknowledge the sterling work of Mike Langford, who has chosen to stand down from his roles at HFC and HUST.

Mike says “HFC is evolving at a rapid rate and going forward I feel I may not be able to offer the time commitment the roles demand”.

“Mike is a proud Hereford fan” says HUST chairman Richard Tomkins “We remember the joy on his face when our team lifted our first trophy.  I thank him for all his hard work and am delighted that Mike has confirmed he will remain as an active volunteer both in the club shop and selling HUST 50/50 tickets on match days”

It's King's Lynn On Tuesday

Next for Hereford FC is the very long trip to King's Lynn on Tuesday. But there is a question about how many supporters will be able to travel.

The game was originally set to be played on Saturday November 25th with a 3pm kick-off. No doubt a fair few supporters would have made the journey from Herefordshire that day, joined by a number from the London area.

However with the game on Tuesday the number of those backing the Bulls could be one of the lowest this season.

Even getting back by train to London after the game takes well over two hours not arriving in the capital until 00.51am.

Getting back to Hereford will take longer.

Another point which has riled some supporters is the charge to watch the game which is £16 to sit and £15 to stand.

To be fair to King's Lynn, the charges were announced well in advance, but some have questioned whether the cost was risen by £3 simply to put off Hereford supporters.

Whatever the reasons the game has to be played.

The ground itself consists of a large main stand able to seat 1200 and a covered terrace opposite as well as an open end behind each goal.

Capacity is said to be over 5000 so there should be plenty of room. Average attendance at The Walks this season is 746.

There might not be that many more at the game on Tuesday. A shame if that's the case.

Hereford Wore Us Down Said Ford

After yesterday's game at Edgar Street Banbury manager Mike Ford spoke to Puritans Radio.

"You look at the score line, I don't think Jack has been diving all over the place but they've just worn us down," said Ford.

"I think we got to 65 minutes at 2-0 and you sort of think if we could just keep in the game we might get something.

"Their first goal goes in from 25/30 yards, second goal a penalty, and then third goal lad gets between two defenders and scores.

"The three goals were avoidable.

"Sometimes when you have this experience of playing in front of this crowd (2932) you might take it for granted.

"But I don't think their players do, they appreciate they are working for good managers.

"They played like men maturely, they made life very difficult, they kept their shape fantastically and they made us look second rate.

"Whether or not they are men in age Hereford played like men."

Ford went on to say that some of his players hadn't turned up on time for the game.

"So I left them out."

Hereford 3 - Banbury United 0

Hereford kept up the pressure on Kettering and King's Lynn with a comfortable 3-0 win against Banbury United on Saturday. A rasping shot from Jamie Bird opened the scoring in the first half, before John Mills doubled the Bulls' advantage with 67 minutes on the clock. Ten minutes later Keyon Reffell rounded off the scoring as he netted the third.

Peter Beadle had more players available to him today compared with last week at Dorchester when the flu was going around the Hereford camp. Ryan Green and Jimmy Oates returned to the back four, as Garyn Preen made way for Keyon Reffell in midfield.

Jamie Bird With An Early Chance That Flew Passed The Keeper
The game was slow to get going, with the first newsworthy action being the opening goal in front of the Blackfriars End. A succession of corners in the 12th minute looked to be going nowhere, but as Banbury half-cleared the danger, Jamie Bird let fly from 30-yards. The ball beat the diving keeper down low to his right to open the scoring.

One of Banbury's best and only chances of the game came with 23 minutes on the clock. Jack Self found Ricky Johnson with a cross from the right wing, with Johnson doing well to create himself a shooting opportunity. But it was the final product that let him down, with his shot proving all too easy for Martin Horsell between the sticks.

Jamie Bird almost grabbed his second goal two minutes later, as once again he tried his luck after Pablo Haysham's corner was half-cleared. The former Cardiff City midfielder fired an effort towards goal, but Luke Carnell was on hand to head clear.

As half time approached, neither side was able to create much, with Pablo Haysham going closest. After some neat passing football following a corner, Haysham's shot across the face of goal went wide at the far post.

HT: Hereford 1 - Banbury United 0

A foul on John Mills by Luke Carnell just outside the area saw the central defender booked, but Hereford weren't able to make the most of the resulting free kick. As Mills tried his luck, he did well to beat the five man wall, but his shot harmlessly hit the side netting.

Goal number two followed, as Mills extended the Whites' lead in the 67th minute. Cameron Pring and substitute Eliot Richards linked up well on the left, but as Pring burst into the box he was brought down by Jordy Ngathe. With the Hereford marksman stepping up in front of a vocal Meadow End, he made no mistake from 12 yards as he found the top corner of the net.

Hereford kept up the pressure, and the third goal came ten minutes later. A long throw to Eliot Richards in the Hereford half saw him play a long ball forward to Keyon Reffell. After making progress, Reffell's half-volley from the edge of the area was destined for the bottom left hand corner of the net, with the keeper unable to get a hand to the strike.

Nine minutes from time Lance Smith could've made it four, but his strike was wide of the mark. Pablo Haysham burst forward following a period of possession for the visitors, but after teeing up Lance Smith he wasn't able to find the target with his effort from 15-yards.

The final chance of the game fell to Banbury in the 84th minute. Jack Self was inches away from scoring a consolation goal, but couldn't keep his shot down as it sailed over the bar.

FT: Hereford 3 - Banbury United 0
Att: 2,932 with 65 in the away enclosure
Sponsors' MotM: Keyon Reffell

So now it's all eyes to Tuesday night. Hereford face a long trip to Norfolk where they take on second-placed King's Lynn Town. A win would see Hereford go top for the first time this season, still with games in hand over the rest of the top four.
