News Round-Up

The Football Combination, reserve league to the Football League, will be down to just 11 clubs next season after their annual meeting on Tuesday. It had 30 sides last season but, largely due to financial reasons, saw 19 sides drop out. The last of those, Peterboro, dropped out on the night of the meeting after finding out how few sides were left. They will two divisions of six and five.

Dagenham keeper Tony Roberts, who turns 42 shortly, has signed a new one year deal with the club. It will be his 12th season with the club, having made over 500 appearances. The Daggers have rejected bids from Peterboro and Charlton for winger Danny Green. Bradford have signed former Scottish u21 international Chris Mitchell on a two year deal. The 22 year old utility man started just six games for SPL side Falkirk last season.

Bristol Rovers have confirmed the signing of Yeovil defender Adam Virgo on a two year deal. The 28 year old has played for Celtic, Brighton, and Coventry before moving to Huish Park. Lincoln chairman Bob Dorrian has laughed off takeover rumours at the club after Vice chairman Chris Travers quit his post on Tuesday. Rushden's former owner Keith Cousins says the FA have told the club they have no right of appeal over their expulsion from the Conference, despite being told by the Conference that they have 14 days to lodge a claim.

Macclesfield have confirmed receiving two offers from Morecambe for out-of-contract midfielder Izak Reid. The 23 year old has been offered a new deal by the Silkmen and they would be due a fee. Meanwhile Crewe are reported to have joined Crawley in moves for Silkmen striker Tyrone Barnett. Gillingham fans are reporting that season ticket sales at the club are substantially down on last season.

Rushden's fans group that was fundraising in a bid to save the club have pulled out of a planned meeting tonight, saying they have insufficient funds to rescue the club, no prospect of doing so without a benefactor, and cannot afford to run the club outside the Conference meaning the meeting is pointless. They say they will focus their attention on starting a phoenix club for the 2012-13 season.
