Struggling League One outfit Notts County have appointed Martin Allen as their new manager, on an one year rolling contract.
Allen had only recently joined Barnet as caretaker manager but has jumped at the chance to join last season's League Two champions. The former Cheltenham and MK Dons manager has headed an upturn in form for the Bees, with seven points in their last three games.
Barnet have put former striker Guiliano Grazioli in temporary charge, with Barnet's official site reporting that Allen told chairman Tony Kleanthous he was leaving at 11.30pm last night.
"I've got to look after myself and my family and I've got bills to pay," Allen told Sky.
Kleanthous told the press he was considering action against the Magpies: "I am disappointed by Notts County's behaviour in this regard, which is in contravention of football regulations, and we will seek advice as how best to deal with that."
