Manset wanted away from Hereford

Hereford United vice-chairman Tim Russon has said that as Mathieu Manset had made it clear he wanted a move away from Edgar Street, the bid from Reading was a 'good move all round'.

"People must understand that this week Mathieu made it clear to us that he didn't want to be at Hereford." Russon told BBC Hereford and Worcester. "He wanted a move.

"With that in mind and taking the fact that he would be out of contract at the end of the season so he could have gone anywhere and we would have been in the hands of a tribunal.

"Reading came in with a very good offer, much improved offer, a couple of clubs had been bidding for him.

"If all goes well, if Mathieu and Reading achieve success, it will mean a club record for Hereford United.

"It was a very difficult decision to make because we've got to stay in the League but the clear deciding factor was that Mathieu himself made it very very clear to the manager and the chairman this week that he wanted away. He didn't want to be playing at Hereford United.

"Once the player had that mind-set, for us it was to do the deal with Reading."

Meanwhile Manset has been named as a substitute at Reading this afternoon.

And on 61 minutes he came on for Simon Church.
