Hereford was One Step Too Far - Porter

Hythe Town manager Scott Porter spoke to the press after this afternoon's Cup-tie at Hereford.

"What we have achieved has been fantastic this season but the game against Hereford was one step too far," said Porter as reported on the FA site.

"What’s happened has been brilliant and these days runs like this don’t come round too often.

"We made a bad start but got back in the game with Gary Mickelborough’s goal. Gary latched on to a great through ball and put it through the goalie’s legs.

"Then we made some schoolboy errors but I ranted a bit at half time and we restored some pride in the second half."

Meanwhile a mention of Hereford United's chairman David Keyte. He waited in the tunnel until the Hythe players all came off the pitch to congratulate them on their performance.

Finally Porter has revealed that Harry Redknapp spoke to him yesterday (Friday).

"We've had all the media hype with the papers and everything but someone like Harry Redknapp, a hero of mine, phoning me up wishing me good luck is great," he told the Kent News.

"A man of his calibre to do something like that for myself, a non-league manager, is great and it sent a few shivers down my spine. He offered me Gareth Bale on loan but I said I've only got £30 not £30 million. We have been living the life of a professional footballer for two weeks and it is a dream come true. No one will ever forget 2010 for Hythe Town, I certainly won't."
