The former owner of Chester City has been arrested along with his son after an affray which left a police officer with a fractured cheek.
Stephen Vaughan (48) and his son Stephen Jnr (25) were at a hotel last Sunday when the disturbance took place. Shortly afterwards the pair were arrested.
Nicola Davies of Merseyside Police said: "The officer was investigating the disturbance at the Jug and Bottle Hotel when he was assaulted by three men at around 10.55pm on nearby Thurstaston Road in Heswall. The men then left the scene in a dark-coloured Audi car.
"The 28-year-old officer was treated in hospital for a fractured cheek bone and bruising to his head and body.
"A 29-year-old man from Neston and two men from Heswall aged 25 and 48 were arrested on suspicion of affray and assault of a police officer after the incident.
"The three men have been released on police bail until May pending further enquiries."
Chester City was wound-up at the High Court last month after a tax bill remained unpaid.
