Sad News Inspired Macclesfield Players

Hereford United manager John Trewick thought the sad news from Macclesfield this week had inspired their players to work very hard this afternoon at Edgar Street.

"It was a disappointing first half performance," Trewick told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"We didn't get close enough to them and compete.

"It was a sloppy goal to conceed. Don't get me wrong, the finish was good, he found the corner of the net very well.

"But we shouldn't allow a right-footed player to turn inside in that position and strike with his right foot.

"And once you go one down, it settles their nerves and increases the tension on the home team.

"We gambled in the second half but gave away a very very poor goal and it was an uphill struggle after that.

"It wasn't a great game of football from both sides. The pitch was bobbley and lively. Whether there is a bit of nervous tension around the place I don't know.

"We'll sit down on Monday and have a chat about that."
