A Fitting Tribute To Keith Alexander

It was never going to be an easy day for Macclesfield Town but the proceedings at Edgar Street both before, during and after the game were a fitting tribute to Keith Alexander.

The silence before the game was total. The Macclesfield team shirts had "Rest in Peace Gaffer" printed on the back and after the silence the squad went over to their supporters and gave away the shirts.

The three points were well deserved.

After referee Gavin Ward blew for full time, both the Macclesfield players and directors walked across the pitch to salute their supporters who had travelled to the game.

And praise from Macclesfield to for the Hereford United supporters 'who
had shown great respect on such a difficult day.'

Finally a few words from caretaker manager Gary Simpson.

"I had known Keith for 30 years and I hope he was looking down upon us," said Simpson

"He was a tremendous man and will be sorely missed. We have a good set of lads here, some of whom have been with him a long time, and a lot are young lads he brought in this season.

"I thought our supporters were also fantastic today and I am just as pleased for them as they have come here to celebrate Keith's life and also the three points as well."
