Stewards 'heavy handed' at Whaddon Road

Some Hereford United supporters have commented that the stewarding at Whaddon Road this afternoon was 'heavy-handed'.

Several Hereford United supporters were ejected from the ground yet there was no trouble of any significence.

Whilst, at times, there were more than a dozen police officers including a couple from Hereford in the away end of the ground, they only appeared to be monitoring events.

One of those ejected was a fan who appeared to want to play in goal. Another was a lad who looked no more than about 12 years old. He was escorted across the pitch by three burly looking stewards after over-celebrating Hereford's second goal.

And, according to a post on the Bulls Banter Forum, one of the stewards was understood to have been sacked after allegedly throwing a punch at a Hereford fan.

Should any fan believe they have been unjustly thrown out by stewards the FSF, Football Supporters Federation, gives useful information on their website www.fsf.org.uk

Most of the complaints revolve around stewards asking people for their names and addresses when ejecting them. Are they allowed to do this? No - stewards cannot legally demand you give your name and address. The police can, but only if it is in pursuit of a criminal investigation.

If you are unjustly arrested, served with a banning order, or get into any scrapes which are unfair, we have a list of solicitors who support the FSF's stance.

One firm of solicitors who will act for any Hereford United supporter who feels they have a reasonable complaint about stewarding or the police.

They are: Alistair Mitchell (Hereford & The Midlands), Alistair can be emailed at 49chambers@googlemail or called on 01746 761545.

UPDATE: It has come to our notice that Alistair Mitchell is a barrister not a solicitor. To obtain their help any supporter needs to go to a solicitor first and then, should circumstances warrant, be referred further.
