Hooper Considers His Options

Gary Hooper is considering his options with Cheltenham confirming talks with him and his manager.

Southend boss Steve Tilson visited Cheltenham with Hooper yesterday sparking suggestions that he would hand Hooper over to the Robins as a part payment for want away striker Steven Gillespie.

Robins' boss Keith Downing confirmed his interest to the local press: "We are in there with a chance of signing Gary. He's come down and spoken to us so it's now down to the player.

"It's not always about finances and he is looking for the next step in the development of his career so he has to consider his options. I have to prepare for life with and without Steven Gillespie. I want to get Gary involved even if Gillespie stays so we'll see if we can entice him here."

Hooper held talks with Scunthorpe earlier in the week, a side that should be able to easily outgun the Robins in the wages stakes. But the Robins have a record of blooding young strikers and allowing them to move on elsewhere, whereas Scunthorpe's recent striking departure had to fight for his move upwards.
