National League North club announce new manager after sacking

Curzon Ashton have moved quickly to appoint Adam Barton as their new manager following the departure of Mark Bradshaw.

The National League North side confirmed Barton’s promotion less than 24 hours after parting company with Bradshaw, who was dismissed amid a poor run of form.

Barton, a long-serving player at the club, has made more than 200 appearances since joining from Farsley Celtic in 2021 and now steps into his first managerial role.

He will be assisted by fellow defender Jordan Richards, who has also played over 200 times for the club after arriving from Farsley, with the pair taking charge for the remainder of the season while continuing as players.

Curzon said Barton’s experience across the EFL and non-league, along with his connection to the club, made him a “natural candidate” for the role.

An unchanged backroom staff will support the new management team.

Chairman Jim Newall said the club were confident in promoting from within, adding: “We are delighted to promote Adam and Jordan… both men have given so much to the club as players and we believe they are more than capable of stepping up into management and driving us forward.

“We recognise that this season hasn’t gone as well as we would have hoped and we want to give Adam and Jordan adequate time to put their stamp on the team and prepare for next season.”

The appointment follows a difficult spell for Curzon, who are without a win in six matches and sit 16th win 46 points from 39 games.

Supporters will have the chance to hear from Barton at a planned fans’ forum ahead of next week’s training session, with further details to be confirmed after Saturday’s trip to King’s Lynn Town.
