7521 are present for Hereford's 4th 0-0 draw in their first 12 games in the football league, three of which have been at Edgar Street. Hereford have only won twice and are yet to win away after six attempts.
On the Pitch: George Johnston's pair in the previous game takes his tally to 6 for the season, two behind the leagues top scorers. Hereford will be away at Cambridge in the week then at Exeter the following Saturday, the programme advertises the reserves home fixture against Wolves A as an alternative to a day out on Devon.
Off the Pitch: The juggernaut that is HUFC keeps on rolling in the right direction. The monthly draw is generating impressive prizes and Bits and Pieces reveals that there was a Golden Goal competition being run back then - albeit not altogether smoothly. One other piece of history that if revisited would test the robustness of HFC's H&S Policy is the Supporters' Car Club complete with the opportunity to win a trophy through rally driving.
There is also an article on the thankfully now flourishing Barrow who were not coping well outside of the football league.
In the Opposition: Two names that would go onto be familiar managers are Hartlepool's player manager Len Ashurst and a 23 year old Neil Warnock. Both had* Turneresque spanning careers in football - getting in their full quota of games as both players and managers. The latter would also combine his day job with being an anecdote machine, all built on taking promoted Scarborough to the football league in 1987-88. *Warnock is never far away from taking over in a crisis so that may be a tad premature.
Len Ashurst took over from Colin Addison at Newport in 1978. His next four years as manager would bring them the most successful period in their history. To keep the links alive, Addison moved back into the hotseat in 1982 after Ashurst was sacked. Ashurst though kept removal bills down with the first of two spells as Cardiff manager. Whilst Hereford weren't always in the same leagues as teams under his command, cup football meant he was no stranger to HUFC during this period.
