Spare a thought for National South League Taunton Town. Their game against Weston, set to have kicked-off at 7.45pm this evening, was postponed this afternoon because of heavy rain.
It is the sixth home game in a row that's been called off.
And given Taunton's last home game was on February 6th the club is close to running out of money.
As a result, the club said recently that it has been unable to meet its salary commitments for February (payment was due on the 5thMarch 2024).
'Using the small amount of income the club has received in February, it has agreed with the players to pay an affordable percentage of their expected sum. The difference will be paid as soon as the club is able to. The remainder of the club staffing team have unfortunately not been paid.
Disappointingly the lack of income does mean that the club is unable to meet its HMRC commitment. Having already exhausted payment plan options with the Revenue, another winding up order and league transfer embargocould be unavoidable.'
Earlier the club had been subject to a transfer embargo. It was lifted after money was found to pay the HMRC after a winding up petition was imposed.
But problems remain. And unless Taunton can play their remaining home games at home to bring in some income, the future of the club is in doubt.
