Bentley Pleased With Win At Hereford

Great start for Jim Bentley at Edgar Street this afternoon when his Southport side beat the Bulls 1-0 in his first game in charge.

"The lads deserved it for the effort they put in," said Bentley.

"As a manager I've won here a couple of times but I know it's a tough place.

"Good people at Hereford, I nearly signed here a few years ago under Graham Turner.

"They get behind the team, make a bit of noise, good crowd.

"We knew they would get behind the team from minute one and when they lost the game in the manner they on Monday I think there was always going to be a reponse.

"For the first ten, fifteen minutes they were all over us.

"We could not get out of our half.

"It was all hands to the pump, but we built into the game.

"Long journey, warm day.

"I've had no games, no wins, no draws, no losses so it's a 40 game season for me.

"I'm determined to do well.

"I've had a kick in the teeth last couple of jobs. 

"I want to do well and there's no better way to start than the way we did today so onwards and upwards."
