Injuries And Illness At Edgar Street

Jared Hodgkiss

In his post match interview Hereford manager Josh Gowling spoke about a bug which has affected at least two players in his squad and also gave an update about players with injuries.

Both Jared Hodgkiss and Jordan Thompson had to be subbed late in the game because of knocks.

And Gowling was already missing Zac Lilly and James Caton with illness as well as Jack Evans and Brad Wade with injuries.

Given there can be up to seven subs on the bench for Saturday's FA Cup game, Gowling may have to bring back players who have gone out on loan.

As regards Hodgkiss the initial view of his injury wasn't good.

"We think he might have done his medial ligament when he made a tackle which was a bit of a stretch and the guy just touched his shin and his knee. It doesn't look great.

"As for Jordan, I know he's ben at Maidstone for a while and they play on 4G. I think he's started to get some shooting pains in his leg. Hopefully it's not too serious. Hopefully he can play at the weekend.

"Zac is illness. We've got a little bug going through the group. I think it's just that time of the year when temperatures drop. He came into training but we sent him home because he wasn't very well. It might have to be Aaron Amadi-Holloway at centre-half."

What about bringing players such as Orrin Pendley, who is dual-registered, back?

"It gives us those options. Obviously finances, we've got to make sure it fits within our budget which is why they are out doing what they are doing in the first place.

"I hope Zac will be alright, hopefully the illness is not too long and he'll be back in training on Thursday."

Gowling was reminded that there can be seven players on the bench for the FA Cup game at Three Bridges.

"You might have to get your boots on," Gowling told Keith Hall.

"Mark (Derricott) nearly came on today.

"As a defender once upon a time bringing a young lad on - we thought about it because the way he trains he deserved it - but we just dropped Yan in there and Lloyd went to full back.

"But Mark will be an option for us and if we have to call some lads back them that's what we will do.

"Jack is not far away, Kane as well, Kane trained Thursday. He's still feeling his ankle a little bit but he might in contention.

"I think Jack will be more like the Boston game."
