Hereford FC's Ben Pollock was sent off towards the end of the first half of this afternoon's game against Curzon Ashton.
The incident happened after Lian Corbett had taken over from original referee Scott Simpson who had to retire from the middle.
Pictures of the incident taken by Hereford's offical photographer Steve Niblett appeared to show that the decision was harsh.
"I spoke to Ben about it," said manager Josh Gowling.
"I think he was reaching for it. I think because he left the ground, he was quite high, I can see why it was given.
"That's just over-eagerness.
"For the thirty minutes Ben was on he was different class. He broke things up, won second balls.
"He was a bit down and upset in the changing room but we spoke to him and told him that the thirty minutes he gave us was just different class.
"I can't wait to get him back."
Later Pollock tweeted:
Gutted to get sent off today but will come back right! On a positive note the lads & staff were different class. Massive thanks to the fans for there support, we go again and push on.
