Former Hereford United defender Dean Smith has been appointed head coach of Aston Villa.
John Terry will be his assistant.
Smith has been with Brentford for the last three seasons.
"Dean has a clear and successful coaching philosophy as well as a real
understanding of Aston Villa Football Club. He is also knowledgeable
about the Championship," said Villa CEO Christian Purslow.
Smith joined Hereford in 1994 from Walsall for a record fee of £80,000. After the Bulls were relegated to the Conference in 1997 Smith moved to Leyton Orient.
