Former Hereford United midfielder Alan Rodgerson has died. He was 79.
Rodgerson, second from left bottom row in this 1965 photo, had two spells with Hereford. The first from 1964 to 1968. He then moved to Gloucester for two season before returning to Edgar Street.
Formerly with Middlesborough, he initially joined in the summer of 1964 after being scouted by his former manager Bob Dennison who was now in charge at Edgar Street.
His first league game for Hereford was against Stevenage Town on Wednesday August 26th 1964. Along side him in the starting eleven were Jock Wallace, Rees Thomas, Selwyn Vale, Alan Attwood, Johnny Neville, Arthur Tyrer, Jackie Evans, Brian Punter, Albert Derrick & Ronnie Burbeck. Hereford won the game 5-3.
Rodgerson is one of a select group of players that have scored hat-tricks for Hereford. His came, in just 11 minutes, during a match against Hillingdon in the autumn of 1970.
