Former Hereford Player Running Hull Marathon For Cancer Research

Scott Goodwin played in a game between the Hereford and Worcester Supporters Trusts in August 2014

A former Hereford United midfielder is taking part in the Hull Marathon in September to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Scott Goodwin's wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in February, and with a young family, he said it was a difficult time for them all.

Goodwin said: "My wife Lucy Goodwin got diagnosed with breast cancer on the 3rd February, as you can imagine it was a big shock and heart breaking.

"With young children it was the hardest thing to explain to them that mummy was poorly, it’s been so hard but if I’m honest Lucy has been so positive it’s unreal and she has really as kept us all going.

"To see your loved ones go through pain and repeated hospital appointments is a hard pill to swallow. For me doing the marathon is nothing compared to what Lucy will go through in the next 18 months or so, but it will help if you could all raise a bit of cash and support this worthwhile charity."

The midfielder made 32 appearance for United during the 2001/02 season and is hoping to raise £5,000 for the charity.

"The support we’ve had from family and friends has been overwhelming.

"The staff at Spires Hspital in Leicester have been fantastic, fingers crossed in 18 months or so we’ll all be celebrating the good news that Lucy has the all clear - that will be some party!"
