Recently appointed chairman of Gosport FC, Ian McInnes, has said that he is hoping to pay off all the club's creditors.
McInnes, a former chairman of Portsmouth FC, took over at Gosport last month.
He's told the 'Portsmouth News' that the club has started to pay regular rent to the Council and that creditors were being paid off.
"I can confirm that the rent on Privett Park is now being
paid on time, and that will continue. We are now negotiating with the
council to arrange a repayment plan for the rent arrears."
The rent arrears are reported to be £7,451.
"The
club was in total debts of around £250,000 – we have been through the
list of creditors and have paid off a great deal already.
"I would rather we go down and come back up than end up losing the club altogether.
"Having been in league football in Pompey, I can say that this is as big a challenge as that was."
Yesterday Gosport were at home to Tiverton. Watched by 218 supporters they lost 5-0.
For most of the season they have had to operate with a transfer
embargo on them but this was lifted last month when former chairman Ian
Sellstorm borrowed some money to get the embargo lifted.
And in their squad yesterday was their new player/coach 37 year old Craig McAllister who left Eastleigh last week. He has played for various clubs during his career.
One of them was Woking and when they played Hereford on April 1st 2006 he scored in the game which ended 1-1. Two current Hereford FC players, Rob Purdie and Ryan Green were in the starting line-up for Hereford United that day.
