We Probably Just Deserved It Said Beadle

Hereford manager Peter Beadle spoke to the local media after this afternoon's 'Champion's' game at Edgar Street which Hereford won on penalties.

"We try to do everything to keep the excitement with supporters on the edge of their seats!

"I thought it was tough to get not motivated for it and but I think both teams have had a long hard season and both teams have been hugely successful in their leagues and I think that showed a bit in the quality today.

"There wasn't a great amount of quality on the pitch, lots of endeavour, lots of hard work from both teams but a little bit of lack of quality.

"And that was the difference in the end because I think if we had had a little bit of quality, we had enough chances to wrap it up, they had one or two themselves to finish it off.

"Overall we probably just deserved it in the way we played especially in the second half.

"And Steve (Royston manager) was very gracious and said we probably deserved it in the end.

"But it's nice to put another bit of silverware in the cabinet and obviously we're still finishing on a positive."

Clayon Fortune replaced the suspended Ryan Green in the heart of defence. And interviewer Keith Hall felt the backline was a little bit sleepy on times

"Sometimes it's difficult as we've had to make a few changes today and it's not been an ideal preparation because of numbers today. We found out we were really short of numbers on Thursday. So it was a bit of a reshuffle and we changed the shape first half and tried something a bit different.

"It worked in areas but as always the biggest threat to us is us and we've done it again today. Second half they've had two chances, one flashed across the goal from a free-kick we didn't need to give and then the one when we gave the ball away in the middle of the pitch and Horesell came charging out and we nearly got caught out, luckily we didn't. If he had stayed in his goal it doesn't become a chance.

"So we caused our own problems but it was a nice game to finish off on penalties and win the game."

In the first half Pablo Haysham played in more of a free role behind the strikers.

"We tried a bit of a diamond in there with Edge in front of the back four and let the other two go and rampage because we knew they played a 4-3-3 but with Molyneux picking up an injury on Thursday night so not being available today, Sinclair already had a knock although we gambled with him today, so we didn't really have any width so we just went with what we thought would be good and match up with their three.

"A couple of times it worked and it looked quite good but in other areas of the pitch it didn't. If we are going to play that way we need to have different personnel maybe.

"Second half we're back to 4-4-2 and we looked far more comfortable that way and we created more chances playing that system. It freed up a little bit more our full-backs to go and charge on a little bit more and we started getting more players involved in advanced areas of the pitch and so created more chances."

Mike Symons With Superman Martin Horsell
The game finished 0-0 after 90 minutes and went straight to penalties, Martin Horsell making the save that gave Hereford the win.

"Horsell will take the credit for getting the save in the end and I thought, apart from the one we missed, they will all decent penalties."
