Another Tribute To McLaughlin

Mike McLaughlin At Edgar Street When Newport Were The Visitors In March 2013
More tributes have been paid to former Hereford United player Mike McLaughlin who died last Sunday.

As well as playing for Hereford, McLaughlin also had three spells with Newport County.

A spokesman for the Newport County AFC Former Players’ Association spoke to the South Wales Argus: “[We are] very sad to hear that Mike McLaughlin passed away.

“He was a terrific player for us and indeed after leaving put his name in history as captain of the Hereford side that had that famous FA Cup giant killing of Newcastle in 71/72.

“Colin Addison later persuaded him to stop playing rugby during 1977/78 to make a late return to us.

“Macca lived in the States for a while, but on his return made sure he rarely if ever missed a game.

“A strong character on and off the pitch, that strength matched by his wonderful friendliness, humour and energy. RIP Macca.”

Mick McLaughlin will be buried on Friday at 10am at St Mary's Church, Stow Hill, Newport.
