Hereford United Tried To Sign Mills Last November

John Mills who has signed for Hereford FC was on Hereford United's radar last season.

How the club could have afforded his signature at that time is open to question.

Here's a look back at how events were reported on BN.

Friday November 28th

Bulls Chase Didcot Striker

Hereford United are reported to be considering making an offer to Didcot striker John Mills

The 25 year old has scored 31 goals for the Evo-Stik Premier League side this season to date.

Manager Ian Concannon wants to keep Mills at the club but admits it could be difficult.

“Hereford put in a seven-day bid for him and they have now offered him a very good deal,” Concannon told the Oxford Mail.

“I think he is meeting them on Monday and the money they have offered him is very good.

“I don’t think there is anyone in the country who has scored 31 goals by the end of November, so it would be a massive blow to lose him.

“But we’ll be having a chat with Millsy and our financial man to see if we can work out a way to keep him.

“We’ll just have to see whether he enjoys a two-hour commute going back and forth to Hereford each day, with all that traffic”

Mills Turns Down Hereford

Didcot striker John Mills, who has scored 33 goals this season to date, has turned down the chance to join Hereford United.

He had been due to meet Hereford yesterday but, according to the Oxford Mail, decided on Sunday to stay with Didcot.

"I spoke to him (on Sunday) and he told me he was staying with us,” said Didcot manager Ian Concannon.

“It’s fantastic news and if he keeps scoring at the rate he is doing, then he’s going to end up with 50 goals and be an established goalscorer.

“That will mean he is going to attract offers from clubs higher up than Hereford and I think he can see that. He tells me he’s staying and that’s good enough for us."

Mills Wanted More Than Southern League Premier

Didcot striker John Mills has told the Oxford Mail that he turned down Jon Taylor's advances partly due to the club's financial plight, and partly because he felt he could do better.

The 24 year old has scored 33 times this season, and told the paper: “There was a lot of press recently about Hereford going to court because of their money troubles and, to be honest, if I want to push myself I’ll try and push higher.

“It’s also a lot of travelling and I didn’t really fancy travelling two-and-a-half hours down the motorway every night.

“Every footballer always wants to play at the highest level they can. I’m 24 now so if it’s going to happen it’ll have to happen soon, but we’ll just see what happens.

“I’m not forcing anything, I’m not pushing for anything, because if the goals keep coming then people will keep looking and keep asking questions.”
