A player who until a few days ago was plying his trade in the Evostick Southern League with Chippenham has signed for Ipswich Town. And it appears Hereford United showed some interest in the left back but failed, for whatever reason probably financial, to offer him a deal.
Manager Mick McCarthy spoke about 19 year old Tyrone Mings.
"He played at left-back. He’s quick, he’s 6ft 3in, he loves a tackle.
He’s only 19 but plays the game like a bloke. He’s a good talker,
organises and we’re delighted to have him in."
Mings said a number of clubs, including Hereford United, had shown
interest this season but nothing beyond that.
"I’ve had a few clubs watch me over the last year or so. I went to Hereford for a couple of days but they had a transfer embargo at the time and they had financial problems as well.
"This is a life-changing opportunity for me and I’ve got to make sure I take it."
Meanwhile former Hereford United player Gareth Davies has tweeted:
'Tyrone Mings dad was a quality player and until this season manager of Chipp town. Played against us in FA cup 1994 ish?'
