Gateshead have appointed caretaker boss Anth Smith as their permanent manager until the end of the season.
The 41 year old had a limited career as a player, making around 25 appearances for Sunderland before injury ended his career at the age of 24 following a short spell with Northampton.
He managed Northern League side Chester-le-Street Town last season, before joining Gateshead in the summer as a youth coach. He took the caretaker job when Ian Bogie was ejected from the manager's seat just three days ago.
