Speaking to the press afterwards, Macclesfield boss Steve King thought his side were the better, despite losing out in the posession and shot stats:
"I think we controlled the game for long periods, but two
mistakes cost us for their two goals. It's ironic really because the two
centre halves are probably the most
experienced players in the squad. In the first the challenge should
have come in and in the second we should have pressed it more.
"The second was a great strike, but he's not going to score one like that again, his other two hit the corner flag! But
I was disappointed to lose in the manner we did, they dropped off and
let us press, but I thought we might nick something at the end.
"I
thought we would go on to cause them more problems after we scored,
and controled a lot of the game with some decent football.
"There
are some positives. The passing and movement was good, but I don't
think we quite did enough to get in behind them to cause their
goalkeeper enough problems."
Post match, Silkmen fans have questioned where the fast-paced attacking football they were promised was, while video replays show their penalty to have been an outrageous dive.
