News Round-Up

Dagenham will be without midfielder Peter Gain until mid-March at the earliest after the knee problem he picked up on Boxing Day was diagnosed as requiring surgery. He was initially only expected to be out until early February, but will now go under the knife this week. Grimsby say they have had no contact from Swindon over striker Anthony Elding. The former Stevenage man is out of contract in the summer, but the club hold a clause to extend the deal.

Darlington council say any hopes of demolishing the existing stadium and building a more economically viable arena for the Quakers are remote, as local planning guidelines and national policy would veto any plans to pay for the redevelopment by building a commercial developement in tandem. The club's Administrator needs to find at least £300,000 within the next week to see the club through to the summer. Fleetwood have signed midfielder Lee Fowler from promotion rivals Wrexham for an undisclosed fee. The former Cardiff trainee submitted a transfer request last week.

Crewe have extended the loan of midfielder Jamie Lowry for another month. The Chesterfield man has played seven times for the club since arriving in late November. Bradford hope to tie up permanent deals for Marcel Seip and loanee Ricky Ravenhill, whose short term deals expire this week. Boss Phil Parkinson is expected to offload defender Steve Williams to Inverness on loan, while more players are expected to leave before further new faces can come in.

Northampton boss Aidy Boothroyd has hinted that he may let striker Adebayo Akinfenwa go out on loan after leaving him out of his last two starting XI's. The rotund frontman is believed to be the highest earner at Sixfields, with Boothroyd needing to clear funds to sign new players. Kettering's Supporters Trust is to hold a protest against club owner Imraan Ladak at their next home game. The Trust is to also put a block on passing funds to the club until Ladak leaves.

Port Vale boss Micky Adams has told the press he had to use 'everybody on our books, including the youth team, to put on a training session'. Adams faces having up to ten of his first team squad injured or suspended for Saturday's match at home to Wimbledon. His problems go so far that he is likely to have to give two of the club's first year pro's, with one sub appearance each to their name, full debuts and also possibly one youth team player if the injury situation does not improve.

Rotherham have signed Peterboro full back Scott Griffiths on loan until the end of the season. The 26 year old former Dagenham man has had month long spells at both Crawley and Chesterfield this season. Financial problems at Aldershot? Yes, according to new York signing Scott Brown, who told the York press “I went to Aldershot but they’re not too financially stable" after a brief trial with the Shots.

Fleetwood are reported to have rejected a £750,000 offer from Blackpool for striker Jamie Vardy. They say the bid for the 25 year old, with 18 goals this season, is not the highest they have rejected, with the local press claiming they want £1million plus an agreement to loan the former Halifax man back to the club until the end of the season. Weymouth have announced they will go full time again next season. Owner George Rolls says he has written off £75,000 of loans he put into the club over the past two years.

Bradford are trialling veteran full back Rob Kozluk. The former Sheff Utd man was released by Port Vale just before Christmas after a short term deal.
