Clem's Day with Hereford United

'Our greatest glory lies not in never having fallen but rising when we fall' - Hereford United's club motto is taylor-made for their current predicament so said Mark Clemmit as he introduced an item on the Bulls and yesterday's game against Port Vale on the Football League show last night.

Interspersed with clips of Jamie Pitman, both pre and post match, supporters, David Keyte and Tim Russon, Clem told viewers all about Hereford's plight at the bottom of League Two and also mentioned their excellent pies.

"Of course they are not used to upheavel in these part, Graham Turner was at the helm for 15 years until his departure to Shrewsbury in the summer when he sold the club to one of their former reserve team players and a TV presenter more used to embarrassing managers than sacking them," said Clem.

"It's been an altogether more serious business this week."

Chairman David Keyte then told viewers about the sacking of Simon Davey.

"It was a very difficult thing to do because I liked the guy. I couldn't fault Davey for the work he had put in in that short time," said Keyte.

"Hard as he was trying and Andy Fensome his number two it seemed to be actually going away from them."

Supporters were then asked for their views and afterwards Pitman was questioned about him stepping into Davey's shoes.

"They've asked me to do the job and I've been far too busy with all the rest of the stuff to even think about it (becoming manager)," said Pitman.

"I'm taking each day as it comes."

Clem then noted that it was a baptism of fire for Pitman as he's up against the experienced Micky Adams the current manager of the month.

"The pressure is always on first time managers, you've got to get it right in your first job," said Adams.

Then the camera showed Clem tucking into one of Ascaris' best pies.

"They may be bottom of the Football League but their pies are right up there. Look at that - pure Hereford Beef. I'm having another one of those!," noted Clem.

A short clip of the proceedings on the pitch followed and srtaight after the game a very happy looking Pitman faced the cameras again.

"Apart from that (Missed penalty) they've been absolutely superb, every single one of them," said Pitman.

"These are good enough players, they just have to remember it and keep working all the time and that's what it is down to."
