Davey in the Doghouse

This morning the Bulls Banter forum is full of supporters disappointed with the poor form of Hereford United.

In general manager Simon Davey is held responsible.

The appointment of Davey was announced on June 22nd. One of his first comments was:

"My football philosophy is to play attacking football. We all want to win but I want to win in style and the Hereford board have told me their biggest wish is to see exciting football at Edgar Street - they want to entertain the fans."

A few days later he spoke to BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"I'm not going to be silly to say we are going to get promotion this year but we want to win every football match.

"With ambition, with hunger comes success and I think if we all start off on the right track, whether it be supporters, the board of management or the players, we can all pull in the same direction.

"I want to get into League One and for me this club matches that ambition."

Now after just six League matches the Bulls are bottom but one in the table, have just four points, have scored just one goal, and are top of the yellow card league - already 22 bookings.

One might accept those stats if there looked to be some light at the end of the tunnel. However Davey still appears to be experimenting with his players.

For example take yesterday's game - making Mathieu Manset play on the left of mid-field yesterday whilst trying to hoist long balls to Stuart Fleetwood and Sam Malsom, neither of whom are big or strong, didn't appear to be a particularily good tactic.

Davey needs a win, or at the very least a score-draw, next Saturday at Bury. If that doesn't happen the gate for the visit of Southend on September 25th the gate will be sub-2000.

After all his hard work in lifting the spirits of Hereford United supporters pre-season Chairman David Keyte must be so disappointed. And so are the supporters.
