The Bulls travel to Prenton Park for a League match for the first time in twenty years.
While the Bulls visited for an FA Cup match last season, obtaining a 2-2 draw after twice leading in the match, it was 1988 when they made the trip for League action. Tranmere, who had spent the last ten seasons battling the Bulls in the basement division, won the match 1-0 as they headed for promotion with Bulls legend Jimmy Harvey pulling the strings in midfield for the Rovers.
Just as that day, Tranmere expect to field an ex-Bull in the middle of the park. Steven Jennings' three month spell at the Bulls is the only time he has spent away from Prenton Park. Tranmere retain hopes of a play-off spot and should have secured one if they had a more potent strike force. Strikers Ian Moore and Bas Savage have just 18 goals between them, and Rovers have often relied on goals from midfield with the Bulls being pegged back twice at Edgar Street by midfielder Edrissa Sonko.
The Bulls' relegation will be confirmed with a defeat and solitary points gained by Carlisle and Crewe. Many fans have made their minds up about the players, but these final matches will allow Graham Turner to decide - with all but two out of contract in the summer - which to keep and which to discard. The ongoing injury problems may prevent too much experimentation, but maybe we will get to see if Michael D'Agostino actually does exist.
Tranmere Rovers vs Hereford United, Prenton Park, Monday 13th April, 3.00pm.
