Oldham Football Club have issued a statement about crowd trouble said to be 'an altercation between visiting supporters' during Saturday's defeat at Hereford.
Several fans in the away end were involved in an incident in the early stages of the game which caused something of a negative reaction within the larger body of supporters.
Although it is acknowledged that tensions were running high given matters on the pitch, such behaviour is concerning and is not acceptable within any football ground.
The club are fully committed to the FA's Respect game with regard to referees, and it is felt that this respect should also be present between supporters on the terraces.
A club spokesman said: "We are all on the same side at the end of the day. A number of supporters were concerned by what happened on Saturday and have contacted us.
"We would like to make it clear that violent behaviour is not welcome, and by cutting out such incidents we can make the match-day experience more enjoyable for everyone."
The incident is believed to have happened during the first half of the game when a number of stewards were seen to go into the Oldham supporters.
