Football League clubs have voted in favour of the proposed home grown rule at their meeting in Derby today.
Of the 67 clubs present, out of a total of 72, 66 voted in favour of the proposal to require four 'home grown' players in their matchday sixteen man squad from the start of next season. It is not currently know which club voted against the rules which requires a player to be registered with the club's domestic FA for three years prior to their 21st birthday. The rule includes time spent as a schoolboy with a club.
Of the current squad only Craig Samson, who spent his formative years in Scotland, and Matt Done, who was with the Welsh FA registered Wrexham, would not qualify under the new rules. The Welsh clubs in the FL, Cardiff and Swansea, would have to have four players registered with the Welsh FA under similar terms.
