Lionel Ainsworth has given Hereford United supporters hope that his current loan from Watford might be extended.
"I had hoped that one day I would come back to Hereford - and I could be here next month," he told the Hereford Times.
"I think I have a strong case to go back to Watford because I feel I have been playing well.
"Equally, I could stay at Hereford and do the same.
"I was sad to leave Hereford but Hereford remains in my heart."
Ainsworth revealed that went he asked about going out on loan he was told about two interested clubs.
"I preferred Hereford - having been here before and knowing everyone involved. I knew how Hereford played and they knew how to use my strengths.
"It's brilliant being back. It's great to see some of the old faces. I've even bought a copy of the new book."
Manager Graham Turner will need to secure an extension to Ainsworth's loan before Christmas if he is going to play against Tranmere on Boxing Day.
