It has been announced that the completion date for the new Blackfriars Village, close to Hereford United's football ground, will be around 2020.
The village will comprise of 1,000 new homes of which 300 will be built as 'affordable homes'.
The Worcester-based Sanctuary Housing has been chosen to manage the project. They will work alongside the Edgar Street Grid company and Herefordshire Council.
"Importantly, it will not be a huge out of town estate, but an inner city community with all its associated shopping and leisure facilities and employment opportunities close to hand. It will create a new and more sustainable lifestyle for those who choose to live there," said ESG's Jonathan Bretherton.
The Blackfriars Village site will stretch from Merton Meadow, across Widemarsh and up to Jewsons builders' merchant's yard. There will be both pedestrian and cycle routes to the city centre along with a better public transport facilities close to the railway station.
New offices will be built in the area including a new divisional headquarters for West Mercia Police employing over 300 people.
