League 1 Gossip

Yesterday, the whispers from Norf-East Landon were that Orient’s former Cheltenham winger JJ Melligan was to return to Whaddon Road for the coming season. Melligan has had a less than impressive start to his reported three year contracted period at Brisbane Road and has been transfer listed. Keith Downing, boss of the Gloucestershire former Southern League outfit, told the local Echo newspaper: "JJ is one of many players who will be on a list of available players coming out this summer. I want to sort my own camp out first and I am not going to panic into new signings early on."

Northampton chairman David Cardoza has warned Nottingham Forest they may have to break the £1million barrier if they wish to sign star goalkeeper Mark Bunn. The 23-year-old has been the subject of intense speculation this season and former Cobblers manager Colin Calderwood tried to land him for Forest in January. Cardoza said: "I haven't heard anything from Colin yet since the end of the season but I wouldn't be surprised."

Walsall chairman Jeff Bonser has hinted at the possibility of handing caretaker manager Jimmy Mullen the job on a permanent basis. "Jimmy Mullen will have the same consideration as anybody else - probably a little bit more because he's on site and I see him every day and he's doing a grand job," Bonser told The Express & Star. "He's conducted himself very well since Richard left, but the board will employ who we think will be the best person for the job."
