Davies expects close encounter at Hereford

Chester City manager Simon Davies is expecting that this afternoon's match at Edgar Street will be just as close as the first encounter this season when the teams drew 1-1. At that point Chester were in the top five of League Two.

"Hereford will be well organised, but if we can play like I know we can, then I am sure that we can get a positive result from the game," said Davies as reported by the Liverpool Daily Post.

"To be quite honest, I believe in the squad of players I’ve got right now. Apart from Peterborough and MK Dons, who I think are very, very strong, I think anyone can beat anyone in this division. It’s all on the day and how you approach the game. On the day, I think we will give a good account of ourselves.”

Davies appreciates that Hereford manager Graham Turner watched Chester's abandoned last game at Stockport last Saturday.

"I know he’s a very good manager, but if he can read much into that then he’s a better man than me. I don’t think he would have picked up too many pointers.

"The one thing from our point of view is that he wouldn’t have seen how good our wide men are."

Meanwhile Turner, who was once a Chester player, realises that Chester have made progress since Davies took over as manager.

"Chester had a terrific win against Darlington recently and they frustrated Peterborough where they created a number of late chances.

"I think Chester have a strong defence and they have experienced players like Paul Butler and John Murphy in their side. But my biggest concern isn’t how we beat Chester, it’s how we perform and how we don’t let nerves get the better of us."
