The history of Mansfield Town FC can be traced back to 1897 when a team was formed in the town called Mansfield Wesleyans. Gradual progress saw them eventually change the name to Mansfield Town in 1910 and this was followed in 1919 with a move to Field Mill where they have remained ever since. Their most successful period was during the seventies, a decade that brought them two championships and a season in the old division 2. The club came to the for again in the nineties following the capture from Fulham for £50,000 of a certain Phil Stant. Stant proceeded to repay the fee by scoring 30 goals in the season although four were later expunged from the records when Aldershot were expelled from the league.

In recent years, over £6 million has been spent on redeveloping the stadium. Visiting fans are now accommodated in the North Stand, which is all seated and has a capacity of around 1800.

Pre-Match Refreshments
The Early Doors pub next to the ground welcomes visiting supporters, as does the The Talbot on the A60 near Simsbury's. The Lord Byron in Quarry Lane is another option. Alternatively, Wetherspoons in the town was found to be most acceptable when I visited prior to and after the LDV affair a couple of seasons ago.

See you in The North Stand.
