Only 928 Shrewsbury supporters bothered to make the short journey down the A49 to watch their team comprehensively defeaten by Hereford United this afternoon at Edgar Street. It was one of the lowest levels of support for the Shropshire side for several years for a League or even Conference match at their near neighbours ground.
Whether the timing of the game or the weather had anything to do with it is open to debate. However it appears that Shrewsbury had only sold around 850 tickets before yesterday's announcement that the game had been changed to pay on the day.
Whilst the Shrewsbury supporters started off in fine voice including a rendering of 'Edgar Street is falling down', the noise faded as the second half went on.
In fact towards the end some 'Peters Out' posters were noticed. And just for good measure it appeared that the police stopped Shrewsbury fans leaving the ground early.
Later it was reported that the train taking them back to Shrewsbury had been delayed. Just not their day.
