The O'Kelly move
This report is from the Official Bournmouth Site:
SEAN O'Driscoll will have a new assistant next season after appointing former Grimsby, Walsall and Port Vale striker Richard O'Kelly as his right-hand man.
Following successful coaching spells at West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa, O'Kelly has spent the past two years at Conference outfit Hereford United.
In his time at Edgar Street, O'Kelly acted as first team coach and physiotherapist for the Bulls, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Football League last season, losing in the play-offs to Aldershot.
O'Driscoll has bided his time in appointing a new number two, following Peter Grant's departure to West Ham in January.
But having secured O'Kelly's services, Cherries' new management duo will officially take the reigns when O'Driscoll's squad report back for pre-season training on July 5.
O'Driscoll said: "We are delighted to have secured Richard's services who joins us from Hereford United having just narrowly missed out on automatic promotion to the Football League.
"Richard has a wealth of coaching experience at Grimsby, WBA, Aston Villa and for the past two seasons he has combined a myriad of roles, including first team coach, at Hereford United.
"Having reluctantly let Peter go during the season to West Ham we felt it would be unfair to then do exactly the same to another club although if the situation demanded it the priority has to be with the welfare of our own situation.
"With head of youth Joe Roach able to step into the breach in the interim, and with his own vast coaching experience, we were able to delay the appointment until it satisfied both parties.
"I would like to go on record and thank Joe for all his help and support and I'm sure that will continue in the future.
"Richard will be a welcome addition to the coaching and management staff at the club. His enthusiasm, work ethic and attitude are first class but the rapport he engenders with the players he works with is similar to Peter's and I'm positive they will enjoy working with him.
"Importantly we both share the same football beliefs and philosophy although as with Peter we at times disagree on how to implement them. This has proved in the long run beneficial to the players and club's development."
