Craig Stanley

Richard O'Kelly may have left Edgar Street but he might have been influential in bringing Bedworth born Craig Stanley to Hereford from Telford.

The 5ft 8in 21 year-old midfielder came through the Acadamy system at Walsall where he was a regular in the reserves. He signed his first professional contract at the start of the 2002/2003 season.

He had a six-month loan spell at Raith Rovers last season before joining Telford.

Whilst at Walsall Stanley was described as follows:

"Craig Stanley has a great engine and good footballing mind. He has all the qualities needed to be a central midfielder, and the fact he can play anywhere across the midfield means he could be around the Bescot for sometime."

However cost cutting measures at Walsall led to Stanley moving to Telford last February. Stanley was soon in the Bucks team and particularily impressed in the FA Trophy Shropshire derby match when Telford defeated Shrewsbury.

Graham Turner, the Hereford United manager, spoke about Stanley on BBC Hereford and Worcester:"He impressed me when I saw him play for Telford against Shrewsbury in the Trophy and then against us he looked as though he could pass the ball.

"I think he is another young player with the potential to get better."
