Woolmer or Pollock tomorrow
It is still uncertain who will referee the game at Edgar Street tomorrow. Two referees have been appointed for the second-leg games. They are Mr Woolmer of Northampton and Mr Pollock of Liverpool.
Andy Woolmer was recently promoted to a higher level, the Football League Referees list, but Bob Pollock is staying at the same level for another season.
Pollock recently refereed the Conference game at Leigh RMI which the Bulls won 5-0. He gave the Bulls a penalty just four minutes into the game when Steve Guinan was brought down in the area by Gareth Ellison.
He was also in charge when Hereford United went to the Gay Meadow and lost 4-1. On that day the Bulls had grounds for a penalty after twelve minutes, but this was dismissed by the referee, and Shrewsbury went straight down the other end and scored.
Mr Woolmer officiated in the Hereford/Tamworth match at Edgar Street in December when the Bulls lost 1-0. He didn't go on the Bulls supporters Christmas list that day as in the dying minutes, Ryan Green was dismissed as he picked up a dubious second yellow card and the referee seemed over-zealous in what was not a dirty match. His card count tallied up ten yellow cards, two of which became red, and this in itself didn't aid the spectacle.
It is probably unfair to judge a referee on a couple of games but the impression is that Mr Wooler might use his notebook more than Mr Pollock. As Aldershot have been judged to have made 570 fouls in the Conference this season as opposed to 424 by Hereford, maybe the Bulls would prefer Mr Wooler to referee tomorrow. On the other hand Mr Pollock might keep the game flowing a little faster as he did at Shrewsbury, but then he missed a penalty for the Bulls that day.
It should be confirmed who is to take the game later today.
