Rose to go to Four Nations bash
Michael Rose will join Paul Parry and Tony James at the Four Nations semi-professional tournament after he was called up to the final eighteen squad.
Paul Fairclough, manager of the English side, named Rose at left-back as he bids to win the title for the first time. Parry and James will feature for the holders, Wales.
Fairclough said: "I am extremely happy with this squad. It is well balanced, contains a blend of youth and experience, pace, power and creativity and it contains half a dozen ‘multi-functional’ players who provide the squad with an adaptability needed in a tournament like this."
Matt Baker, the United goalkeeper, missed out as Chester's Wayne Brown and Yeovil's Chris Weale were selected ahead of him.
Fairclough was eager to play down England's chances: "Wales won the tournament last year, and with home support, will doubtless start as favourites.
"Although Wales have not selected Kevin Gall of Yeovil Town, who had a fine end to the season, Graham Evans showed that he is extremely dangerous in last year’s tournament and has again had a strong season in the Welsh Premier.
"Ireland this year may be slightly weaker with a squad deprived of more experienced players due to the Irish League having only recently re-started, but they will still be a strong side again looking to impress.
"Scotland, meanwhile, will be sure to improve on last year, when they had very little preparation time and will be keen to get some points on the board this year."
