Derby day this evening at Edgar Street, kick off 7:45pm, as Hereford entertain near neighbours Westfields, whose journey to the game will be in marked contrast to that of imminent FA Cup opponents Truro City.
Old friends Jamie Molyneux, Carlos Moreira and George Hayes will return for this one, this time in Westfields colours. I, for one, thought Molyneux could have been given a bit longer to show his potential at Hereford, and he has contributed significantly to 'Fields currently sitting atop the Midland League. He'll no doubt be keen to make a point to Pete Beadle, although he's reportedly not 100% fit.
Multiple changes are expected for Hereford, more because of the status of the competition than in response to Saturday's performance at Brackley, although you never know..!
It'll be interesting to see how goalkeeper Joslain Mayebi performs (although Bulls fans will be hoping, and expecting, that he should have a quiet evening, and Jordan Lam should make his second appearance for the club, with an opportunity to make a big attacking impression against a club several tiers lower.
Harvey Smith has the opportunity to strengthen his claims to a starting place on Saturday at home against strugglers Ashton. He surely can't be far off, and can influence Beadle's decision with a commanding defensive display and a little more composure in his distribution coming out with the ball.
In fact, arguably it may be easier now for players coming in for this sort of game to force their way into the first team, or at least onto the bench. Over the last three seasons, when the first team were winning every week, everyone seemed undroppable, so opportunities were scarce. However, at the moment, with players serving suspensions and others struggling, be it with confidence, fitness, form or the quality of the opposition this season, fringe players may be able to force their way in and consolidate. Rough diamonds - this is your time to shine!
