Third Goal A Real Cushion Said Beadle

Peter Beadle Talking To The Referee After Today's Game
Out of the rain, Peter Beadle spoke to the media after Hereford defeated Kempston Town 4-0 in the FA Cup this afternoon.

"It was comfortable but we had to work hard to be comfortable," said the Hereford manager.

"I think the third goal was a real cushion for us. It looked a real soft penalty from the side we were. It was awfully soft and they had every right to feel hard done by.

"But we always looked comfortable and that we could score more goals.

"A real good performance from from to back, clean sheet, nice to stay nice and solid, may be a little bit more quality in that final pass and finishing the final third and maybe we could have had a couple more.

"We've done the job, we've come here and been well looked after, the pitch had a decent surface for us to play on.

"We looked fit and strong and towards the end they got a bit tired and had to chase the ball a little bit but just a nice solid performance."

Before kick-off it was warm and sunny but it soon started to rain once play got underway and it did look possible that the referee might have abandoned the game at one stage.

"We did have a quiet word to ourselves in the second half. But the pitch is really good. Because of the amount of rain there were a few little areas but I think if the referee had called it off it would have been horrific for everybody. It held up really well. Good playing surface."

Being an FA cup game teams were allowed up to seven substitutes including new loan signing Adam Page.

"It's nice to have that many subs and it's nice to have that many subs who have got real quality. You look at that bench and any of the seven of them could have started today. It's where we want to be, in a good position with good players to choose from.

"We wanted to get Adam on the pitch as soon as we could to get him involved quickly and Lance (Smith) as well to get some minutes under his belt. And Purds has been chomping at the bit to get in and do well.

"Obviously with Dinsley's booking and then he slid into one, we were careful with him, we didn't want another sending off.

"So it was good for them to get minutes, a lot of them now will get minutes on Wednesday in the HFA Cup Tie at Westfields.

"Simmo could do with another run out as well, maybe one or two others as well. So the game has come at a great time for us in that it gives us an opportunity to give players minutes.

"The hardest thing sometimes is to stay focused when you are tired. It will be a good test for us and the lads will be looking forward to getting a game on Wednesday."

New signing Jamie Bird wasn't on the bench this afternoon.

"We were waiting for the clearance before we signed him but that's come through so he's available to play.

"He's trained for about a month but he hasn't played for quite a while whereas all the boys on the bench have played recently.

"He needs to rein himself in because he's chomping at the bit to get a game so we can play him on Wednesday so he's another one who'll get game time on Wednesday."
